Women’s shelters in Canada need our support now more than ever to fund their life-saving and life-changing work. As the cost of living in Canada continues to rise, shelters across the country are reporting rising rates of domestic violence and more women than ever who are reaching out for help. There continue to be increasing numbers of women and children in all corners of the country who are fleeing the danger within their homes and working to rebuild their future after experiencing domestic violence. 

 

In 2021 I survived the bears while trekking the Purcell mountains and was able to raise over $8,000 that went directly to The Redwood, our local women's shelter and just over $2,000 to the national Royal LePage Shelter foundation. In November 2023, I flew to Ecuador and trekked for 5 days toward one of the highest active volcanoes in the world! During this high-altitude adventure, I learned to breathe thin air while hiking long days across varied terrain in unpredictable mountain weather. I camped in a tent, without cell service, electricity, bathroom facilities and other comforts of home. With everyone's help, I was able to raise over $20,000 which went entirely to The Redwood and the national Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

This year I'm excited to share that my colleague (Manny Andrade) and I have been selected to trek through Cambodia towards the awe-inspiring temples of Angkor Wat! Collectively our goal together is to raise $60,000 (or more) for women and children in need. Over five days, we’ll trek approximately 25km a day, facing intense humidity, jet lag, scorpions and spiders – all without the comforts of home. But the real challenge is deeper than the physical one. As I embark on this trek, I’ll be fueled by the knowledge that every dollar I raise and every kilometre I walk will directly support women and children in need. The funds raised will help those seeking refuge, healing, and hope from our local women's shelter, The Red Wood and the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. This trek will not be easy but it will be immensely worthwhile.

We’ll be covering all our own trek and travel expenses, so every dollar you donate will go directly to helping those who need it most.
